Acerca del evento

The Excitements is a band from Barcelona formed at the beginning of 2010, which at this point is already the revelation of the current Catalan soul scene. They look to Memphis, Detroit and Chicago, blending the raging R&B of the late '50s with the power of the '60s Stax sound.

They achieve this thanks to the sophisticated presence and powerful voice of Koko Jean Davis, a vocalist of Mozambican origin based in Barcelona who overflows with passion in each verse, and who seems like an explosive mixture of Etta James, Tina Turner (in the years in who recorded for the Kent label with her husband Ike) and even James Brown. She is accompanied by a band that has well learned the lessons of the best soul: Robert Gómez Ezquerro and Adrià Gual on guitars, Daniel Segura on bass, Marc Lloret - Alto sax, Nicolás Rodriguez-Jauregui - Baritone sax and Xavi Ayala on drums.

On their self-titled debut album, released on CD and LP by Penniman, the Excitements have opted for a dozen unerringly energetic versions of R&B classics. Thus, in The Exicitements' repertoire we find songs like “From Now On”, by Nathaniel Mayer, “Wait a Minute” by Barbara Stephens, or “Never Let You Go”, from Little Richard's sweetest songbook.

To give this sound artifact a more “vintage” flavor, the album has been recorded in mono under the tutelage of Mike Mariconda, a member of bands like Raunch Hands or Devil Dogs and producer of The Hives, Nine Pound Hammer, New Bomb Turks or Revelators. . It is, therefore, a high-voltage sonic microgroove suitable for lovers of classic sounds and also for modern ones without prejudice.
